Drone Survey Pricing in Nepal — What to Expect in 2026

Topographic surveys, cadastral land mapping, construction monitoring, LiDAR corridor work — here's what UAV surveys actually cost in Nepal in 2026, why drone survey beats traditional methods, and how GarudX prices its work.

The question we get asked most often by engineers, developers, and government project managers before our first meeting is some version of: "How much does a drone survey cost?"

The honest answer is: it depends on what you need. But unlike most industries, "it depends" in UAV survey has a fairly transparent logic — once you understand what drives the price, the quote makes sense. This guide explains all of it.

What Drives UAV Survey Pricing?

Four factors determine what a UAV survey project costs:

1. Area and terrain. A flat 5-acre plot in the Terai takes a fraction of the time of a 5-acre hillside in Kavre. Steep terrain, forest cover, and restricted airspace all add complexity and flight time.

2. Accuracy required. Standard photogrammetry with GCPs (ground control points) delivers 5–10cm horizontal accuracy. RTK/PPK GPS-corrected surveys get you to 2–3cm. Full DGPS ground verification brings you to centimetre-level with independently verifiable checkpoints. Each tier requires different equipment time and post-processing.

3. Deliverables. An orthomosaic JPEG is one thing. A classified LiDAR point cloud, georeferenced DTM and DSM, volumetric analysis, and a GIS-compatible deliverable package is another. The data processing and QA adds time after the flight is done.

4. Mission complexity. A repeat monthly survey of an existing construction site with a known flight plan is efficient. A first-visit corridor survey in mountainous terrain with unknown obstacles, multiple permit requirements, and tight site access is a different job entirely.

Pricing by Survey Type

Cadastral / Land Boundary Survey **NPR 4,000 – 10,000 per ropani** (or NPR 35,000 – 80,000 per hectare)

Private land demarcation and area calculation for legal or development purposes. Combined with DGPS ground control for boundary accuracy within 2–3cm. Deliverables: georeferenced orthomosaic, boundary demarcation map, computed area with coordinate points.

Most residential and small commercial land surveys fall in this range. Turnaround: 3–5 working days from flight to final deliverable.

Topographic / Terrain Mapping **NPR 15,000 – 35,000 per km²**

Contour generation, digital elevation modelling, terrain analysis for infrastructure planning, road design, or watershed assessment. Accuracy: 5–10cm with GCPs, 2–3cm with RTK.

A typical route alignment or hillside development survey: 2–10 km². Deliverables: orthomosaic, DTM, DSM, contour lines at 0.5m or 1m interval.

Construction Site Monitoring **NPR 20,000 – 50,000 per visit** (monthly contracts available at reduced rate)

Weekly or monthly orthomosaic capture of active construction sites for earthworks progress tracking, volume calculation, and compliance documentation. Each visit produces a timestamped orthomosaic and volumetric comparison against the design model.

Repeat-client monthly contracts: NPR 15,000–35,000 per visit depending on site size and deliverable complexity. This is among the highest-value UAV services for the price — catching a volumetric shortfall early saves far more than the survey cost.

River Corridor / Floodplain Survey **NPR 8,000 – 20,000 per km of corridor**

Cross-sectional profiling, floodplain delineation, sediment analysis, and channel geometry mapping for hydraulic modelling and disaster risk assessment. The Tinau Khola 1,000+ acre survey we completed was priced in this tier — and delivered data that would have taken a boat-based survey team weeks to collect.

LiDAR Survey (Vegetation-Penetrating Mapping) **NPR 25,000 – 60,000 per km²**

LiDAR is the right tool when you need ground elevation beneath vegetation — powerline corridor inspection, forest floor mapping, geological assessment, infrastructure monitoring in tree-covered terrain. The sensor cost and processing complexity push this above photogrammetry pricing, but the data it produces is often the only way to get accurate ground elevation without clearing vegetation.

Combined UAV + DGPS Survey (CM-Level Accuracy) **NPR 60,000 – 120,000 per project** (typical 5–50 hectare scope)

When regulatory submission or engineering design requires independently verified centimetre-level accuracy, we deploy a combined UAV photogrammetry and DGPS ground survey. The drone provides speed and area coverage; DGPS provides checkpoint verification at critical locations. Deliverables meet the accuracy standards required for formal engineering submissions.

How We Quote: The GarudX Process

When you contact us for a survey quote, we ask five questions:

1. What is the approximate area and location? 2. What accuracy level do you need? (rough terrain model, or precision engineering-grade?) 3. What are the deliverables? (orthomosaic only, or full GIS package?) 4. What is the timeline? 5. Are there any site access constraints, CAAN permit requirements, or sensitive areas?

From those five answers, we can give you a fixed-price quote within 24 hours. No surprise costs after the flight.

Is Drone Survey Worth It Over Traditional Methods?

For most of the survey work GarudX has completed — river corridors, land cadastral, construction monitoring, terrain modelling — the answer is unambiguously yes.

Our Tinau Khola 1,000+ acre corridor survey: 4 days of flight and processing. Equivalent ground survey: 6–8 weeks.

Our bridge construction monitoring: 30-minute weekly flight, deliverable by next morning. Traditional survey team visit: 2–3 days.

The data quality is comparable or better. The timeline is dramatically shorter. The cost for equivalent coverage is lower in almost every case.

If you have a project that needs accurate spatial data in Nepal — land, terrain, infrastructure, water — talk to us. We'll tell you honestly whether drone survey is the right tool. More often than not, it is.
